Golden Turtle Casino

Bottom Line: Golden Turtle Casino is a good choice for players who are looking for quality over quantity.

Turtles are good luck in certain Asian cultures, and Golden Turtle Casino is banking on that to attract customers. This new Boss Media casino, run by Net.Gaming Investors Ltd. of Antigua, uses the turtle theme to create a top-notch gaming environment.

The site is understated. No flashing banners, no annoying ads, and nothing screaming at you. It was actually kind of peaceful. The one thing that was missing, however, was new-player bonuses.

Notwithstanding that shortcoming, I went ahead with the download (which took about five or six minutes with an ADSL connection).

I tried to log on to the casino when I was finished but didn’t have the necessary security code. It was supposed to have been e-mailed to me during the download process, but never showed up.

Rather than waiting for it to turn up, I called customer support looking for some help. The woman who answered the phone wasn’t exactly grumpy, but she certainly didn’t want to chat. Oh, well. I got what I needed, and I was off to the tables. [If this happens to you, try using the word SUPPORT in the login ID box. It should work at all Boss Media casinos. – Ed.]

The first thing that most players will notice at Golden Turtle is that gaming options are somewhat limited. You can choose from one and only one version of Roulette, Blackjack, Caribbean poker, Mini Baccarat, Slots, Video poker, Progressive slots, and Keno in both fun- and real-money modes. And that’s it.

But the limited selection of games may not be such a bad thing. I’d rather have eight well-designed, sharp-looking games that play well than two dozen that are slow, awkward, and look silly.

The graphics in the casino and games themselves are very impressive. Colors are good, cards look sharp, they move smoothly on the tables, and the Roulette wheel is quite realistic. I was also saved from squawking parrots, flashing lights, and bad Flash animation. Best of all, the dealer had a reassuring English accent. Simply put, the casino spoke volumes by being understated.

I played a couple of hands of ‘fun’ Blackjack and got trounced. Not exactly an auspicious start, but it wasn’t really money. Thankfully.

Once I got a feel for the games, I signed up for real money play. I was particularly impressed by the registration interfaces, which were well designed and looked professional. That’s one of my biggest beefs with some casino signup pages. Players are expected to deposit their money using an interface that looks like it was designed by an eight year old with a Crayon. That doesn’t exactly inspire confidence.

I deposited $50 and headed back to the tables. Unfortunately, we were having connection problems here at WINNERonline and the casino crashed mid-hand.

I packed it in at that point, but when I logged in the following morning my bet still sitting there. Granted, it was only $2, but it was nice to see that I hadn’t lost it. It also substantially boosted my confidence in the casino’s software.

I played Blackjack and Baccarat ligaz11 for a while, but wasn’t having much luck. I moved on to the Roulette table and did better there. I even managed to win a few $25 bets. Feeling a little more confident, I went back to the Baccarat tables and won a few more hands.

I figured it was time to cash out when I broke the $100 mark. Not big bucks, for sure, but I’m pretty happy when I can make $50 in less than half an hour. Now I just have to wait for my PIN to arrive before I can cash out.

My final thoughts on Golden Turtle Casino? The crisp graphics, clean design of the casino, and high-quality software all lead to a vote of one and a half thumbs up out of a possible two. (I’m playing the part of both Ebert and Roper here.)

The Turtle loses a quarter of a thumb for the problem with the login code and another quarter for the lack of a bonus. All in all, however, a good choice for players who are looking for quality over quantity.
